Cartoon of the week
"Ron & Dave" is a period cartoon that chronicles the lives of two brothers growing up as both best friends, and hated rivals. The early sixties provides the backdrop for the cartoon, just as it did for the young lives of the two brothers. These were the days of Camelot, when anything was possible, even rockets to the moon. When you're ten or twelve years old you take for granted that anything is possible.

The subject matter is timeless. "Ron" is the elder of the two boys, and so it is naturally not beneath him to use both his size and family position to his advantage when dealing with his younger brother, "Dave". While the two boys share both common experiences and active imaginations, they differ in how they view life. Ron is a "take charge" kid. David, on the other hand, is more thoughtful, and the perfect "foil" for his brother.

Cartoonist David Lacey uses a simple drawing style and brief captions to highlight the early years of these two characters. While the strip focuses on the early years of the decade, it also gives occasional glimpses of the present day, contrasting both the similarities and differences of childhood and adult life.
